What proof do you need for a carer ticket?

Venues ask for proof that a disabled visitor needs someone with them before they issue a free carer ticket. Of the 326 UK venues we track that publish what they accept, the most widely accepted proof is the DLA award letter (190 venues).

Most venues accept more than one of these, and many want the document dated within the last year or two. The venue page lists exactly what each one accepts.

The documents explained

What is PIP?

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit that can help with extra living costs if you have a long term health condition or disability that affects you in the ways GOV.UK sets out on its eligibility pages.

What letter do you get when PIP is awarded?

After you apply for PIP you get a letter with the decision. If you are eligible, it also tells you the date of your first payment and how long until your claim is reviewed.

What is Attendance Allowance and what letter do you get?

Attendance Allowance helps with extra costs if you have a disability or health condition severe enough that you need someone to help look after you. Once a decision is made you get a letter explaining the outcome, and if you are awarded it the letter says when your first payment will arrive.

Can adults still get Disability Living Allowance (DLA)?

Adults cannot make a new claim for DLA. Some adults who already get it keep receiving it, though DLA for adults is being replaced by PIP in England and Wales, and in Scotland existing adult claims have moved to Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance.

What is DLA for children?

DLA for children may help with the extra costs of looking after a child under 16 who has difficulty walking or needs much more looking after than other children of the same age. Families in Scotland apply for Child Disability Payment instead.

What is Carer's Allowance?

Carer's Allowance is money to help you look after someone who needs to be cared for. It is for people who care for someone at least 35 hours a week, where that person gets certain benefits, and DWP contacts you with a decision after you claim.

How do I get a proof of benefit letter online?

GOV.UK has a service to get proof of your benefits and State Pension, which you can download to your device or have sent by post. It covers Attendance Allowance, DLA for adults, PIP, State Pension and several other benefits. You need a GOV.UK One Login and may need to prove your identity with photo ID.

Who cannot use the online proof of benefit service?

Appointees, or anyone who manages someone else's benefits, cannot use the online service, and nor can people who live outside the UK. If you have moved and not told DWP, GOV.UK says to report the change first.

How do I get proof of a benefit not covered by the online service?

GOV.UK says to contact the team that deals with the benefit. For Attendance Allowance, DLA and PIP that is the Disability Service Centre, and Universal Credit claimants can sign in to their online account.

Who do I contact about my Carer's Allowance?

The Carer's Allowance Unit handles Carer's Allowance and can be contacted by phone, Relay UK, a British Sign Language video relay service, or by post to Freepost DWP Carers Allowance Unit.

What is a Blue Badge and who issues it?

Blue Badges help people with disabilities or health conditions park closer to their destination. Your local council decides whether you are eligible and issues the badge.

What benefit letters are used as evidence for a Blue Badge?

For PIP, GOV.UK asks for pages from your DWP award letter showing your entitlement and your assessment scores. For DLA, it asks for the most recent DWP letter showing your mobility rating, certificate of entitlement and the letter's date.

How do I replace a lost, stolen or damaged Blue Badge?

You can request a replacement online through GOV.UK for yourself or someone else, giving your details and the badge number if you know it. A stolen badge needs a crime reference number, and the replacement lasts until the original badge's expiry date.

What is a Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI)?

A CVI is a form completed and signed by an ophthalmologist certifying that a person is sight impaired (partially sighted) or severely sight impaired (blind). The patient gets their own signed copy, and with their consent copies go to the local council and GP so the council can offer registration and support.
